What is an EKG?
An EKG is a test the team at Jiki Medical Associates uses to get information about how your heart is performing. With this test, they can assess your heart rate and rhythm and the levels of blood and oxygen that flow into your heart. They can also look for structural abnormalities and determine if you have a heightened risk for heart attack.
They get all of this information by looking at the electrical activity that causes your heart to beat. Each heartbeat is caused by an electrical impulse that leads your heart to contract, pumping blood from it.
During your EKG, your Jiki Medical Associates provider has the opportunity to see how long these electrical impulses take to travel through your heart and how they trigger the different portions of your heart to beat. Observing and measuring this electrical activity helps your doctor identify heart problems and determine where they’re originating.
Why would I need an EKG?
Jiki Medical Associates uses EKGs for a wide range of patients because they’re safe, painless, and effective. You might need an EKG to see if:

What should I expect during an EKG?
You don’t need to do anything to prepare for your EKG.
During the test, you relax as your Jiki Medical Associates provider attaches sticky electrodes to your chest and, in some cases, your limbs. These electrodes measure your heart’s electrical impulses. Then, you lie still for a few minutes as your provider takes readings from the electrodes.
After that, the electrodes are removed and you can continue on with your usual daily activities.
